🗓️ Why Claude Workspace Data Retention Exists

Covered Models, such as Claude Fable 5.1, need 30-day retention and don't work under ZDR unless specifically authorized. Retention is set per workspace.

⚙️ How to Turn It On

Open the Data retention page, pick the workspace and select Standard data retention (30-day retention), then save and accept terms. The default workspace can't be used, so create a new one.

🔑 Who

Only Admins, Owners and Primary Owners can change it; members can view.

💡 Pro tip Name the workspace clearly, like covered-models-30d, so nobody sends sensitive traffic there by mistake.

📌 Effects

Applies to new requests only. Data is kept 30 days and may be accessed for safety. Other workspaces keep ZDR. Batch API, Files API and Managed Agents aren't covered; with CMEK, retention can't be turned off.
