2 min read
⚡ TL;DR Add a repo with + then Add from GitHub in chats, or GitHub in Projects. Only file names and contents from one branch sync. Private repos may need the Claude GitHub App.

Ask Claude about your actual code. The Claude GitHub integration brings repos into context.

Guide. 🐙

🐙 Adding Repos with the Claude GitHub Integration

In chats, use + and Add from GitHub. In Projects, choose GitHub from the same menu.

📄 What Syncs

Only file names and contents from the chosen branch. Commit history, pull requests and other metadata aren't retrieved.

🔒 Private Repos and SSO

Private repos may need access via Claude's GitHub App. SSO organizations require each user to authorize the Claude app.

💡 Pro tip Select only the folders you need; less context means sharper answers.

🔄 Keeping It Fresh

Use Sync now to pull changes. If you lose repo access, its contents leave Projects, but conversation history stays.
