Claude Cowork Projects: Separate Workspaces for Related Work

2 min read
⚡ TL;DR Cowork projects are workspaces with their own files, instructions and memory. Start blank, import a chat project or use a local folder; Team and Enterprise can share view or edit access.

Mixing every client in one place gets messy. Claude Cowork projects keep each body of work separate.

Guide. 🗂️

🗂️ What Claude Cowork Projects Are

Separate workspaces, each with its own files, background information, instructions and memory.

➕ Creating One

Click + next to Projects in the left panel, then:

  • 📄 Start blank with a new folder

  • 📥 Import a chat project

  • 📁 Use a folder already on your computer

👥 Sharing and Memory

Team and Enterprise can give colleagues view or edit access. Project memory stays separate from other projects but is shared with non-project chats unless you turn off account memory for it.

💡 Pro tip Create one project per client so instructions and memory never cross over.

⚠️ Good to Know

Projects are Cowork-only, not Claude Code. Archiving hides a project but leaves local files untouched. The latest Claude Desktop is required.
