🏢 Claude Cowork Admin Controls
Owners can turn Cowork off for the organization, and Enterprise can enable it per group or custom role. Separate settings cover cloud sessions, the built-in browser, auto-approve mode and connector approvals.
⚙️ Defaults
On by default for Team, off for HIPAA-enabled organizations. On Enterprise, cloud sessions stay off until an Owner turns on Run Cowork in the cloud and grants access through a custom role.
☁️ Cloud vs Local
Cloud sessions continue across devices and run scheduled tasks with no device online. Local sessions run in an isolated virtual machine on the user's computer.
💡 Pro tip Prefer cloud sessions for regulated teams: their data is captured by the Compliance API.
🗂️ Data and Limits
Cloud data saves to member accounts and the Compliance API; local history stays on devices, outside retention, and can't be centrally deleted. OpenTelemetry can stream events. Network egress rules don't cover web search, web fetch or MCPs.
