⚡ TL;DR Users test in the playground; Developers manage keys and see usage; Billing handles payments; Admins do everything plus manage users and roles.
Least-privilege access starts with the right role. Here are the Claude Console roles.
Admin guide. 👥
👤 User Claude Console Roles
User and Claude Code User can use the playground, with Claude Code access for the latter. Both see MCP tunnels but not API keys, usage logs or billing.
👩💻 Developer Roles
Limited Developer and Developer use the playground and Claude Code, manage API keys, webhooks and credentials, and view usage and cost. Developer adds session traces and file downloads.
💳 Billing
Uses the playground, manages billing and views usage and cost, but can't access the Claude Code workspace.
💡 Pro tip Give finance the Billing role, not Admin; it covers everything they need.
🛡️ Admin
Everything above plus managing users and roles, sending events to active sessions and creating MCP tunnels.
Mapping Claude Console roles to jobs keeps access tight. Need an API access review? Lord Of The Wix can run it. ✨
