Wix Forum: Adding and Setting Up Forum Notifications

Increase engagement by sending custom notifications that highlight new activity in your forum. You can control who the notifications are sent to, where they are sent, and what they look like from your site's dashboard.

Note:

Site visitors need to follow a category before they can receive any notifications.

Activating notifications

To start sending forum notifications, you need to activate them in your Outgoing Notifications page.

To activate notifications:

  1. Go to Settings in your site's dashboard.

  2. Scroll down to the Communications section.

  3. Click Outgoing notifications.

  4. Scroll down to the Wix Forum section.

  5. Hover over Notify followers when a forum post is published and click View Summary.

  6. (If the notification is inactive) Click the Inactive toggle to enable the notification.

Want to deactivate a notification?

Click the Active toggle to disable the notification. The trigger data that you see under Activity isn't collected when an automation is inactive.

Note:

The default notification Notify followers when a forum post is published is pre-installed for you and cannot be edited.

Adding more notification types

Add various types of notifications to keep your community informed about Wix Forum activities. Set different triggers tailored to Wix Forum and send emails or push notifications to notify your community.

For example, when a student posts a new photo in a photography class forum, all students receive a push notification to encourage them to engage with the content.

Note:

Wix Forum notifications are managed through Wix Automations. You can view and manage all your automations from the Automations page in your site's dashboard.

To add more notifications:

  1. Go to Automations in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click + Create Automation in the top right corner.

  3. Click + Start from Scratch.

  4. Select Wix Forum in the Trigger section.

  1. Select a trigger from the available Wix Forum options.

  2. Click the Limit frequency to drop-down to set trigger frequency:Don't limit (trigger every time): Your action will take place every time it is triggered by a visitor.
    Once per contact: Your action will take place only once per contact.
    Once per contact every 24hrs: Your action will take place only once per contact in any 24hr period.

  3. (Optional) Set a delay and add a condition to specify the automation:

Add a delay

Set the delay between a trigger and its action, to have the action occur after a certain amount of time passes. For example, if you have a new post related to an event coming up you can delay sending a notification until a specific time.

  1. Click + Add Delay.

  2. Click the drop-down and select when to perform the action (e.g. days, hours and minutes).

Note: If you don't add a delay, the action is performed as soon as the trigger occurs.

Add a condition

Add a condition to make the automation occur when certain conditions are met. For example, you can set a condition to send a notification when a comment receives a response.

  1. Click + Add Condition.

  2. Click the Continue the automation if drop-down and select the criteria you want to use to decide whether this automation continues each time it's triggered.

  3. Click the drop-down that appears next to your criteria drop-down to select your operator (e.g. "is", "is not").

  4. Click the drop-down or text box that appears next to the operator drop-down to complete your condition.
    Note: The logical statement you've created will determine whether the automation continues.

  5. (Optional) Click + Add Criteria to add more conditions.

8.  Select the relevant Action: Send an email or Send a push notification (new).
 Tip: Learn more about the available actions.

9.  (Optional) Click + Add an Action at the bottom to set up a multi-action automation.

10. Click Activate to save your new automation.

How can I customize the email notification?

You can customize the following elements of an automated email notification:

  • Sender details: Send the email from your preferred email address so recipients know who to reply to.

  • Email template: Write and design your email template with text, images, and more, or select an existing email to use as a template.

  • Email type: Select a type for your email to determine how or when your recipients can mute or unsubscribe from your emails.

How do I turn off the notifications I receive?

You can turn off or manage the notifications you receive by going to your Notification Preferences in your site's dashboard or the Wix app on your mobile device.

You can choose the notifications you want to get as a forum member as well by accessing your live site on your desktop or on Spaces by Wix.

How do members manage their own notification settings?

Members can manage their own notification settings on your live site or on the Spaces by Wix app.
