Wix Blog: Translating Your Blog

Translating your blog can expand your site's reach and improve SEO by increasing traffic and conversions. You can translate posts and categories, including their images, descriptions, and URL slugs.

Before you begin:

First, you need to add and set up Wix Multilingual. You can add Wix Multilingual from your editor, your site's dashboard, or from the Wix App Market.

Translating your blog

With your standard blog dashboard, you can translate posts and category names along with their images, descriptions, and URL slugs.

To translate your blog:

  1. Go to Blog in your site's dashboard.

  2. Choose what you want to translate:

Category names

  1. Click Categories in the sidebar. 
    Note: Make sure you are in your main language tab.

  2. Click the More Actions icon  next to the relevant category.

  3. Click Translate

  4. Select the relevant languages and click Continue.

  5. Translate your category's Name, Description, Image and URL Slug.

  6. Click Save.

Blog posts

  1. Click Posts in the sidebar.

  2. Click the More Actions icon  next to the relevant post.

  3. Click Translate post.

  4. Click the What language do you want to translate into? drop-down and select the relevant language.

  5. Choose how you want to translate your content: Manual translation or Auto translation.

  6. Review the draft and click Publish.

Tip:

Using the Translate tab in your post composer, you can also translate a post as you edit it. Click Add next to the relevant language to open a duplicate version of your current post and start translating in your chosen language.

Managing your translated content

Now that you've localized some categories and posts, there are multiple ways to manage your translated content going forward.

To manage your translated content:

  1. Go to Blog in your site's dashboard.

  2. Choose what you want to do:

Filter your categories by language

  1. Filter your categories by language.

  2. Click Categories in the sidebar.

  3. Select the relevant language from the drop-down.

Filter your posts by language

  1. Filter your posts by language.

  2. Click Posts in the sidebar.

  3. Select the relevant language from the drop-down.

Edit a post or category in a specific language

To edit a post:

  1. Click the Posts tab on the left.

  2. Click Edit next to the relevant post.

  3. Click the Translate tab in the panel on the left.

  4. Click Edit next to the relevant language.
    Note: You may need to click Add to add the language before you can edit it.

To edit a category:

  1. Click the Categories tab on the left.

  2. Click the More Actions icon  next to the relevant category.

  3. Click Translate.

  4. Select the relevant language.

  5. Click Continue.

  6. Translate the content and click Save.

Change the post language

You can change the language of each of your blog posts. If you translate your categories first, each blog post is automatically translated based on its category.

To change the post language:

  1. Click the More Actions icon  next to the relevant post.

  2. Click Change language.

  3. Select the language you want to change to.

  4. Click Change.

Tip:

Categories, post SEO settings and URLs can be localized and are unique per translation.

Can I translate tags?

No. Currently, it is not possible to translate blog tags. Once a tag is created, it is given the same language as the post that it was created on or was assigned to. If this is something you'd like to see in the future, vote for that feature.

Can I translate my blog in the translation manager?

No. While you can see Blog in the translation manager, clicking it directs you to the Blog dashboard.

Can I translate my blog in the editor?

No. While you can see the 'Edit Translation' button on your blog, clicking it directs you to the translation manager which then leads you to the Blog dashboard.

Do all languages appear on my live site?

No. Languages set to Hidden do not appear on your live site. To make your language visible on your site:

  1. Go to Multilingual in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click the Status drop-down next to your language and select Visible.

Can I assign categories and tags to posts of all languages?

No. Categories and tags can only be assigned to a post of the same language.

Is auto-translation initiated automatically for newly added languages?

No. If you add new languages after auto-translating your site, auto-translation will not be initiated automatically.

What happens if I add a language, but I don't translate my blog content?

If you add a language, but don't translate your content, a "Posts are coming soon message" is displayed in your live site.
